Gandalf
Gandalf is the wizard that appears in The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings. He is also known as Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White when he returns from the dead. He is the leader of The Fellowship of The Ring and the army of the West. Gandalf is also apart of a group called Istari. In the Hobbit, Gandalf is a good friend of Bilbo. He goes to Bilbo's house, asking if he wants to go on an adventure with him. First, Bilbo denies the offer, but chases after him when he changes his mind. I would say that Gandalf is my favorite character from The Hobbit.

Bilbo
Bilbo Baggins features in the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. Bilbo is the author of the Hobbit and he can translate Elvish to English. In the Hobbit, Bilbo is the protagonist, and goes on adventures with Gandalf. In the Lord of the Rings, Bilbo isn't really in the book besides in the beginning. In the beginning of the Lord of the Rings, Bilbo hosts a birthday party celebrating his birthday. About half way through the feast, he makes a toast, thanking his family for everything. After he finishes his toast, he disappears and goes on a permanent leave. Bilbo leaves his will to Gandalf to give to Frodo, and Frodo does as Bilbo says in the will.
